Local stocks closed with gains, NIFTY up 1.05%

The key domestic indices ended on a firm note. Nifty Realty, Nifty FMCG and Nifty PSU Bank shares advanced, while Nifty Auto shares declined.

As per provisional closing data, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, rose 905.01 points or 1.24% to 74,151.04. The Nifty 50 index gained 237.90 points or 1.05% to 22,936.75. In the past three trading sessions, the Nifty and Sensex gained modestly by 0.81% and 0.74%, respectively.

The broader market underperformed the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index added 0.66% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index posted modest gains of 0.67%.

The market breadth was healthy. On the BSE, 3180 shares advanced and 2070 shares declined. A total of 209 shares were unchanged.

Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd was the top traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 465.01 lakh shares and registered a sharp increase of 132.83% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has rallied 9.58% in last one-month and has moved higher 1.81% over last one year.

HDFC Bank Ltd was the second highest traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 314.23 lakh shares and recorded a sharp decline of 5.01% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has plunged around 4.69% in last one-month and has fallen sharply 31.71% over last one year.

Index action

The Nifty Realty index jumped 2.75% to 819.8 today. The index is down 0.99% in last one week and has retreated 6.23% over last one month. It fell sharply by 15.54% in last one year. DLF Ltd (up 4.21%), Lodha Developers Ltd (up 3.84%), Phoenix Mills Ltd (up 3.72%), Prestige Estates Projects Ltd (up 3.36%) and Oberoi Realty Ltd (up 2.44%) gained.

The Nifty FMCG index rose by 2.34% to 43882.95 today. The index has fallen by 1.93% in last one week and has shed 5.27% over last one month. It tumbled by 23.58% in last one year. United Spirits Ltd (up 5.06%), Marico Ltd (up 4.32%), Dabur India Ltd (up 2.78%), Varun Beverages Ltd (up 2.55%) and Patanjali Foods Ltd (up 2.49%) went up.

The Nifty Auto index eased by 0.24% to 25645.6 today. The index has climbed by 2.03% in last one week and has edged lower 3.08% over last one month. It slipped by 5.31% in last one year. Hero MotoCorp Ltd (down 4.09%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (down 1.32%), Uno Minda Ltd (down 1.14%), Bajaj Auto Ltd (down 0.97%) and Eicher Motors Ltd (down 0.85%) slipped.

The Nifty PSU Bank index rose for a third session in a row today. Bank of Baroda (up 4.09%), Punjab National Bank (up 2.98%), Indian Bank (up 2.89%), Bank of India (up 2.11%) and Union Bank of India (up 1.92%) rose.

Global Markets

European markets showed mild gains.

DOW futures are marginally lower by 0.20% today.

MCX Crude oil futures are lower by 1.18% at Rs 9787.0 per barrel.

NIFTY50 futures closed firmly higher by 1.21% at 23053 and are in a premium of 116 points compared to NIFTY50.
