Local stocks ended on a mildly positive note

The key domestic indices ended slightly higher. Nifty Pharma, Nifty Realty and Nifty Healthcare Index shares advanced, while Nifty Metal and Nifty IT shares declined.

As per provisional closing data, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, moved higher by 564.03 points or 0.76% to 74,858.99. The Nifty 50 index posted modest gains of 67.90 points or 0.29% to 23,414.30. In the past three trading sessions, the Nifty and Sensex gained modestly by 0.85% and 0.70%, respectively.

The broader market failed to keep pace with frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index inched down 0.02% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index edged higher by 0.09%.

The market breadth was soft. On the BSE, 2586 shares gained and 2745 shares fell. A total of 235 shares were unchanged.

HDFC Bank Ltd was the top traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 354.83 lakh shares and recorded a sharp increase of 6.14% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has inched higher by around 1.11% in last one-month and has slumped 25.17% over last one year.

Eternal Ltd was the second highest traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 202.75 lakh shares and registered a sharp increase of 13.85% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has risen sharply by around 3.47% in last one-month and has fallen 3.26% over last one year.

The Nifty Pharma index gained modestly by 1.16% to 27021.15 today. The index has edged up by 0.67% in last one week and has edged up 1.32% over last one month. It has surged by 18.32% in last one year. Mankind Pharma Ltd (up 5.96%), Wockhardt Ltd (up 4.85%), Laurus Labs Ltd (up 3.25%), Piramal Pharma Ltd (up 3.12%) and Torrent Pharmaceuticals Ltd (up 2.69%) moved up.

The Nifty Realty index moved higher by 1.14% to 853.85 today. The index is modestly lower by 0.51% in last one week and has declined 5.76% over last one month. It has edged lower by 8.08% in last one year. Phoenix Mills Ltd (up 2.72%), Prestige Estates Projects Ltd (up 2.71%), DLF Ltd (up 2.47%), Oberoi Realty Ltd (up 2.02%) and Godrej Properties Ltd (up 0.34%) jumped.

The Nifty Metal index inched down by 0.61% to 12972.7 today. The index is slightly higher by 0.41% in last one week and has risen slightly by 0.21% over last one month. It soared by 31.11% in last one year. APL Apollo Tubes Ltd (down 3.92%), Vedanta Ltd (down 2.65%), Adani Enterprises Ltd (down 1.49%), Tata Steel Ltd (down 1.15%) and Hindustan Zinc Ltd (down 0.70%) moved down.

The Nifty IT index moved lower by 0.08% to 28830.9 today. The index has eased by 0.23% in last one week and has slipped by 4.50% over last one month. It is sharply lower by around 21.48% in last one year. Oracle Financial Services Software Ltd (down 8.28%), Coforge Ltd (down 1.47%), Wipro Ltd (down 1.37%), Infosys Ltd (down 1.23%) and Mphasis Ltd (down 0.18%) traded lower.

The Nifty Pharma index rose for a third session in a row today. Mankind Pharma Ltd (up 5.96%), Wockhardt Ltd (up 4.85%), Laurus Labs Ltd (up 3.25%), Piramal Pharma Ltd (up 3.12%) and Torrent Pharmaceuticals Ltd (up 2.69%) traded higher.

Global Markets

European markets showed mild gains.

DOW futures are scarcely higher by 0.09% today.

MCX Crude oil futures are substantially lower by 3.61% at Rs 9646.0 per barrel.

NIFTY50 futures ended modestly higher by 0.31% at 23450 and are in a premium of 36 points compared to NIFTY50.
